Everest: Beyond the Limit – Season 2: The Deadliest Climb

Production Details

Last season was the second worst year on record. Everest claimed the lives of 11 people bringing the death toll to more than 200. But it seems nothing will stop the dreamers coming to Everest.

This year The Discovery Channel returns to Everest with high resolution Sherpa-cam and high intensity infra-red Sherpa-cam. With full access to expedition leader Russell Brice’s inner circle guide meetings we get the low- down on what’s really going on in the team. And after last year’s disasters – Russell lost one of his beloved Sherpas and most of his summit team lost fingers and toes to frostbite – he’s determined to weed out the weak before the summit push.

Last year Big Tim Medvetz the Hollywood Biker almost lost his life when summit fever left him exhausted 100m below the summit. Mogens Jensen the asthmatic from Denmark attempted the climb without oxygen and crashed out, blind and disorientated in the Death Zone. But they’re back with everything to prove and a backpack full of attitude that doesn’t sit well with the rest of the team.

Hard bitten expedition leader Russell Brice pulls no punches as he realises the odds of getting through this season without casualties are looking slim. Along with Big Tim and Mogens his team this year include LA Journalist Betsy Huelskamp who hasn’t climbed a mountain in ten years. Multimillionaire David Tait is taking an impossible gamble attempting a double traverse of the mountain – two summits back to back. And Japanese pensioner Yanagi who at 71 years old, wants to become the oldest man ever to summit.

The experience will be gruelling and some may not reach their goal but Russell is determined to make sure his clients do not lose their lives on this, the highest mountain on Earth. Over 8 episodes we will follow these climbers as they attempt fulfil their dream – reaching the very top of the world: Everest.
