Return of the Tribe

Production Details

The Insect Tribe – A small tribe hidden within the flooded forest of Papua New Guinea lives as hunter-gatherers, a way of life which revolves around a tight community.  Tigress lived and filmed with the tribe over 2 weeks in April 2006 documenting their lifestyle, beliefs and unique culture.  The British film team were bombarded with questions about their Western lifestyle.  So, the same production team have invited them to Britain for us to gain their insight into the British way of life and culture.  Three 1-hour documentaries for primetime Channel Five will follow 6 members of the tribe as they journey around parts of Britain and experience how we run our lives and what we believe in.

The first week of their stay will be in London, with our presenter, Donal Macintyre, who will show them the city’s sights and its society.  In addition to London’s tourist hotspots, everyday life will astound them; our communication methods, travel systems, and food stores will raise profound questions with the tribe.  They will also get a snap shot of other British cultures and communities.  For their second week, half of the tribal group will live on a sheep farm in the Welsh hills, comparing traditional agriculture with hunter-gathering.  Meanwhile, the other half of the group will live with a typical British working family in Weston-Super-Mare, shadowing the family at work and home.

This will be an amazing journey for the tribe and their curiosity will provide a fresh insight into our own lives.
