Monkey World now has the largest number of chimpanzees living together outside Africa; 44 in 4 different social groups. Their ‘free-living’ policy has enabled the chimpanzees to develop social structures just like those of their wild relatives. The chimps have been given a new lease of life, and the public have been able to observe a daily soap opera of social intrigues that puts ‘EastEnders’ in the shade.

‘Monkey Business’ is a double living soap. The lives of the chimps paralleled in the lives of their keepers; friendships, jealousies, hierarchies, love intrigue, politics and play … and that’s just the chimps. We are not as different as we used to think.
