Monkey Business 2

Production Details

Far from their African roots, but home from home in a unique zoo in the heart of Dorset, a lively saga continues for the chimpanzees at Monkey World. In a second series we follow the trials and tribulations of their lives and those of their human companions in the successful and highly popular “Monkey Business”.

Another year on, and there are very exciting developments down at Monkey World as the primates in the park continue to pose increasing challenges for the staff…………..

Last year chimpanzee Rodney – the ageing leader – was losing his grip, too over the hill to keep control of his group, he looked to his second in command Charlie for support. But mad old Charlie was more interested in displaying at army tanks than in chimpanzee politics and was no help at all.

By the final episode Charlie was isolated for his own good indoors. Park owner Jim Cronin knew he had to find a solution. As the series concluded things were looking up as Charlie was found a new friend – Pacito – who’d been rescued from a Spanish beach. Pacito was terrified but Charlie – as ever – offered the open hand of friendship. The question on everybody’s mind as we left Monkey World, was what to do with them now?  Their accommodation inside was far too small for them.

A perfect solution revealed itself after the close of the series. The audience reaction to Monkey Business I resulted in a flood of donations to the park. This culminated in the construction of a huge new house and enclosure for Charlie and Pacito, and the chance for them to join a new group of rescued chimpanzees.

Monkey Business 2 opens in a flurry of excitement. There are plans afoot to join the nursery group with Charlie & Pacito. How will Sally – who hasn’t got on with adults in the past – cope with this turn around? She’s top chimpanzee in the nursery, and two new males around could be too much.

It could all get too much for park owners Jim and Alison as well. While trying to track down and rescue the last working beach chimp in Spain, they have discovered a new illegal trade in pet Chimpanzees in Turkey, and a group of unwanted laboratory chimps in Holland.

The next big story is the formation of a ‘supergroup’.  Chico’s group has lost their leader. Now Charlie and Pacito will have a chance to compete for the crown.

Once again this haven for chimps will become battleground. Fights for supremacy will be won and lost. And the dedication of the keepers will be stretched to the limit.
