Dogs That Changed the World

Production Details

Which came first – the massive bloodhound or the toy dog, the terrier or the spaniel?  From the pint-sized Chihuahua to the grandest Great Dane, all dogs claim the wolf as their ancestor. But the question that has puzzled dog lovers to date is how did they all those breeds get to be so different? And just how did the modern dog secure a place in history to become one of the best loved animals on our planet?

Dogs that Changed the World will piece together the clues of dog history in a way that has never been done before.  Using Egyptian hieroglyphics, descriptions from ancient texts, drawings, tapestries and journals, we will discover the way dogs have been used and thought about over the centuries.

Oral histories in Arabia are a fantastically preserved record of dog lineage that chart the pedigree of dogs in much the same way as the Kennel Club has logged breeds for years.  These will be combined with the latest scientific techniques to uncover a pattern of ancestry that will tell the story of the dog.
