Production Details

A six part docu-soap about the lives of an extraordinary group of chimpanzees and their human carers at a rescue centre in Spain. Tucked behind the beaches of the northern tourist resort of the Costa Brava north of Barcelona, the Mona Foundation sanctuary gives chimps once used by the entertainment industry a chance to start new lives together. Here they have the space to run and play as they would do in the wild. These once-abused and humanised primates are learning how to be chimps again.

The series follows the dramatic rescues, medical emergencies, emotional family reunions, undercover investigations and power struggles which play out for both the chimps and their dedicated team of keepers, all set against the backdrop of beautiful Spain.
